An Endangered Animal-Chinese White Dolphins

Endangered animals are animals that will soon become extinct in a few years if we don't take action. That means there may be none of those creatures left in the world after a short period of time. Sometimes the danger is caused by nature, but the main cause is because of human beings since some of them often destroy the nature.

Chinese White Dolphins are one kind of the endangered animals. Although they are called White Dolphins, they are pink in colour so they are also called 'pink dolphins'. They are also marine mammals: although they live in the sea, they are not fish but mammals instead. They can live up to forty years and their main food is fish. They use sounds to detect objects. This can help them to do things such as finding way, hunting food and escaping from danger.

However, the number of them have been decreased over the years. The main causes are human activities. For example, land reclamation, water pollution and overfishing cause more than ninety percent of dolphins' deaths.

Firstly, land reclamation affects their food and living. Chinese White Dolphins live in shallow water which is less then five metres deep. The reclamation work detroys the shallow water where they live. Also, the work affects the amount of fish. Therefore, the dolphins have less food to eat and die. The noise pollution also dicturbs them finding food. The work also increase ships traffic so their habitat is destroyed seriously.

Secondly, the water pollution causes diseases and the dolphins get sick. It also raises the risk of hunting fish. The toxic garbage which contains lots of chemials accumulates in the dolphins' bodies. It can kill them easily.

Lastly, overfishing leaves them will less and less food because they are fed with fish. The dolphins sometimes trapped or become entangled in the fishing nets and drowned finally too becuse of the same reason.

Most of the sea creatures are affected by water pollution, including dolphins, whales, and other many more marine animals. If we want to protect them and increase the numbers of them, we should stop polluting the sea or overfishing. Also we must try to clean up the large amount of trash that is already there.
